Seated capacity is 60, standing is 75. Using our patio and the nursery space, capacity is 125.

What does the rental fee include?

The rental rate includes a standard 12 hour rental (between 6am – 12am), the set up and break down of Blockhouse’s inventory, an Event Coordinator on site the entire event, surround sound and a Chef inspired kitchen. Your rental also includes chairs and glassware for 40 guests, (10) 4ft custom wood tables, (5) 36inch bistro tables, a 6ft wooden bar as well as outdoor lounge furniture and bistro lighting on the patio. 

Do you allow other catering companies or guest chefs?

Absolutely, we welcome any talent to create magic in our kitchen.

I'm a catering company, can I rent your kitchen as just a food prep space?

Of course, blockhouse is a perfect prep space. 

Do you have outdoor space?

Yes, blockhouse includes a furnished outdoor patio and also offers options to add on Pomarius Nursery for your event. 

Where do we park?

Street parking is unmetered. There are also several lots available to rent within just a few blocks. 

Do you do multiple events in one day?

Select weekdays blockhouse does offer an AM and a PM rental.  The neighboring event space Castaway Portland may be occupied on your event day as well. blockhouse and Castaway do not share any facilities, spaces or walkways.

What is blockhouse’s cancellation policy? 

The blockhouse deposit is non-refundable. If the customer cancels the event forty-five days or less prior to the date of the event, customer shall forfeit customer’s deposit plus pay the full balance of the event fee to blockhouse, excluding the cleaning fee.

If I’m getting married at blockhouse, do I get a rehearsal?

Yes, if you have reserved Blockhouse for your wedding ceremony, a complimentary one hour rehearsal is provided. Rehearsals are scheduled on a first come first serve basis and are scheduled around any other Blockhouse events.  Rehearsals in Pomarius Nursery are limited to a 6pm – 8pm timeframe unless otherwise discussed and are scheduled around any other Blockhouse events.

How does catering work at blockhouse?

We prefer clients choose a catering company, licensed private chef, or a restaurant from our approved list which is made available upon request. If you prefer to use someone not on our list, that's no problem. We simply require a brief meeting for approval, insurance and a copy of their Oregon Business License and food handlers permits. 

Can I bring my own food and beverage?

All food and beverage must be provided by a licensed and approved establishment.

Are there restrictions on alcohol?

blockhouse provides in house bar services and has a full premises liquor license.  There are no restrictions on types of alcohol allowed.  We do charge corkage fee options if you would like to source your own beverages.  Please inquire for pricing and seasonal menu options. An outside bar service or caterer may be accommodated with an additional fee, approval and insurance.

Do I need insurance for event? 

We ask all clients to provide a certificate of insurance to Lessor naming blockhouse and, if applicable, the owners and lessees of any of the Pomarius, Versailles and/or Castaway properties used for the event ,as additional insured for the date(s) of Lessee's event through the next day to at least 2am in order to cover the event breakdown hours. The insurance shall be commercial general liability in the amount of at least $1,000,000 general liability and $300,000 damages to premises rented by Lessee.  

Who sets up and takes down each event?

Our team will set up and take down the blockhouse’s inventory and bar before and after your event. This includes tables and chairs as well as our bar and bistros. You or your planner/catering company/rental company are responsible for setting up additional rental items and décor. Vendors and rental companies will be required to pick up their items that same night. In very special circumstances, your venue coordinator may be able to permit a next day pick up.  Don’t worry about cleaning garbage and debris that is fully covered by the cleaning fee.

When must my décor and rental items be out of the venue?

All décor and rental items must be out of Blockhouse by the end of your rental timeframe. In very special circumstances, your venue coordinator may be able to permit a few things to stay overnight. If a substantial amount of items are left over night that were not approved of ahead of time, you will be subject to a $250 holdover fee. 

What kind of tech are you wired for?

Included with your rental is a built-in surround sound system with an iPad supporting both Pandora and Spotify accounts that can be used for background music.  A projector mount is also available and wifi. For additional AV needs please request a basic or full comprehensive quote from blockhouse.

Are there any noise restrictions?

Per City of Portland Ordinance, outside amplified sound must be turned down or off by 10pm. The blockhouse garage door may need to be closed at this time as well. For longer parties, a noise variance permit may be applied for by blockhouse at the expense for the customer.
